Strata in Motion explores the forces of time, erosion, and geological transformation through an intensely tactile abstract surface. Sweeping bands of terracotta, ochre, sandstone, and warm ivory move diagonally across the canvas, creating the impression of layers of earth that have been compressed, fractured, and gradually reshaped.

The heavily textured surface reveals fissures, raised mineral-like formations, subtle cracks, and variations in density. These marks create a sense of geological history, suggesting that the surface is not static but carries traces of movement and time.

A pale ivory channel moves through the warmer earth tones, acting as a visual passage between the heavier layers. This contrast creates movement and breathing space within the composition, while the darker terracotta areas provide depth and grounding.

Rather than depicting a specific landscape, Strata in Motion translates the physical language of the earth into an abstract visual experience. The work invites the viewer to experience texture as memory—each layer suggesting accumulation, pressure, erosion, and renewal.

Created for Baroda Atelier, the painting reflects Vishwa Patel’s exploration of natural materiality through contemporary abstraction, combining handcrafted texture with a sophisticated architectural sensibility.
