In A Measure of Stillness, Vishwa Patel arranges cylindrical and rectangular forms into a closely balanced composition. A tall cylinder rises behind a central rectangular block, while a lower cylinder occupies the foreground. Their staggered heights and overlapping edges establish a rhythm of ascent, interruption and pause.

A restrained palette of ivory, warm grey and muted taupe brings attention to the relationship between light and volume. Pale illuminated faces meet darker side planes, giving the painted forms a sculptural presence. Across these surfaces, granular passages and irregular marks interrupt the precision of the geometry, suggesting the appearance of weathered plaster or worn stone.

The background shares the forms’ subdued colour and surface character, allowing their edges to emerge with varying degrees of clarity. This continuity holds the composition together while creating tension between the solidity of the objects and the space surrounding them.

The work invites sustained looking through small differences: curved and flat surfaces, rough and smooth passages, weight and apparent lightness. Its stillness is built from these carefully balanced relationships.
