A Point of Convergence
In A Point of Convergence, Vivek Patel constructs an open geometric framework across a warm off-white ground. Fine black verticals, horizontals and diagonals form connected structures above a broad black band. The contrast between slender lines and this solid plane establishes a relationship between apparent lightness and weight.
Intersecting diagonals divide rectangular outlines, while a narrow, segmented vertical rises near the centre. To the right, a small gold-toned square concentrates attention where several directions meet. Its restrained colour introduces warmth into the otherwise spare composition.
The arrangement suggests scaffolding or an architectural drawing without resolving into a particular structure. Lines extend beyond their intersections, and a single vertical continues below the black band into the pale field beneath it. These extensions give the framework a sense of continuation beyond its defined boundaries.
The painting’s spacious ground allows each intersection and interval to register. Through differences in line, proportion and density, the work holds a balance between structural order and directional movement.
